About this part

Ford used scroll compressors on the Expedition in these years, and the CO 2486AC is UAC's replacement assembly. A scroll compressor uses two spiral plates instead of pistons to compress refrigerant, which keeps it smooth and quiet. When one fails, you may hear a grinding noise, see the clutch refuse to engage, or get only warm air. The Expedition also often has rear AC, which means more refrigerant and a larger system to flush.

Have the refrigerant recovered before opening the system. Replace the accumulator and both orifice tubes or expansion valves, flush the lines, and confirm the oil charge for front and rear AC. Evacuate and recharge to spec.
