Breather Hose
A breather hose carries crankcase vapors from the engine back into the intake so they are burned instead of vented. We list 55 breather hoses from $10 to $208 for 1980-2010 vehicles. Genuine and Mopar parts make up most of the list, with the Toyota Camry and Highlander, Dodge Dakota, Mini Cooper, Ford Ranger and Nissan Altima among the top fits.

What breather hoses do
As the engine runs, some combustion gas slips past the piston rings into the crankcase. The positive crankcase ventilation system, or PCV system, uses breather hoses and a PCV valve to route those vapors into the intake.
Over time the hoses harden, crack and collapse from heat and oil. A cracked hose can cause a vacuum leak with a rough idle, a whistle, lean codes or an oil smell. A blocked hose can raise crankcase pressure and push oil past seals and gaskets.
Matching the right hose
Breather hoses are shaped for each engine and often have molded bends. Our listings include positions such as valve cover to valve cover, valve cover to intake on the left side, PCV valve to intake and PCV valve hose.
Compare the shape, length and fitting ends with your old hose. Many of these are Genuine factory parts, and Mopar, Motorcraft, Vaico and MTC are also listed.
Fitment and install
Pick your vehicle and read the fitment table for engine size, since V6 and four cylinder engines in the same model use different hoses.
Old hoses often break when you remove them, so work the ends off gently. Check the PCV valve while you are there and replace it if it does not rattle or is clogged with sludge. Push each new hose fully onto its fitting and secure any clamps.
Breather Hose questions
Can a cracked breather hose cause a rough idle?
Yes. A crack can let unmeasured air into the intake, which leans the mixture and may cause rough idle or a check engine light.
Should I replace the PCV valve with the breather hose?
It is a good idea, as the valve is inexpensive and can clog with sludge. A stuck valve affects the whole system.
Why is there oil in my breather hose?
A small film of oil is normal. Heavy oil can mean excess blow-by from worn rings or a clogged PCV valve.
