Air Intake

Intake Manifold

An intake manifold carries air, and on some engines an air and fuel mix, from the throttle body to each cylinder's intake port. We list 30 intake manifolds from $103 to $788 for engines from 1968-2022, from Mopar, Edelbrock, AC Delco and Dorman, with fits for the Dodge Dakota, Chevrolet Corvette and Ford F150.

Signs a manifold has failed

Plastic manifolds can crack, and some designs leak coolant from built in coolant passages. Common signs include a vacuum leak hiss, a rough idle, lean codes, misfires, coolant loss, or coolant or oil leaking at the manifold joints.

Many leaks come from the gaskets rather than the manifold itself. A smoke test or careful inspection helps you tell the difference before you buy a whole manifold.

Upper, lower and emissions options

Some engines use a two piece manifold with upper and lower sections, so positions listed here include upper, lower, front and right. Order the section that failed.

Check whether your engine has EGR, since manifolds are listed with and without EGR provisions. Package contents vary: some include gaskets, mounting hardware, a thermostat or intake runner control parts. Performance manifolds from brands such as Edelbrock list an RPM range, which affects how the engine pulls.

Install tips

Disconnect the battery, relieve fuel pressure if the fuel rail comes off, and drain coolant on engines with coolant passages. Label vacuum lines and connectors as you remove them.

Clean the sealing surfaces without scratching them, use new gaskets, and tighten bolts in the order and torque listed for your engine. Refill and bleed the cooling system and check for leaks once the engine is warm.

Intake Manifold questions

Can a cracked intake manifold cause a misfire?

Yes. A crack can create a vacuum leak, which leans out the mixture and can cause misfires and a rough idle. A smoke test helps find the leak.

Do intake manifolds come with gaskets?

Some listings include gaskets and hardware, while others are the manifold only. Check the package contents and order gaskets if needed. Reusing old gaskets often leads to leaks.

What does with or without EGR mean on a manifold?

It shows whether the manifold has the ports for an exhaust gas recirculation system. Match what your engine came with to keep emissions controls working.
