Antenna Mast

An antenna mast is the rod that sticks up from the antenna base and receives radio signals. We list 27 antenna masts priced from $11 to $85 for 1990-2021 vehicles. The Jeep Grand Cherokee and Mini Cooper have the most listings, along with the Jeep Cherokee, Subaru Impreza, Lexus RX300 and Toyota 4Runner.

When to replace the mast

Masts get bent or snapped in car washes, under low garage doors and by branches. Rubber coated masts can also crack and fade. A damaged mast often causes weak radio reception or more static.

On fixed antennas, the mast usually threads into the base, so you can replace it without touching the cable or base. That makes it a quick, low cost fix compared with replacing the whole antenna.

Length, material and thread

Mast lengths in our listings range from about 6.81 in to 31.77 in. Shorter masts look tidier but may pull in weaker signals in rural areas. Materials include plastic, rubber, plastic coated and stainless steel, with matte or brushed finishes in black or silver.

The thread size at the base must match your vehicle. Specific fit masts are made for your model. Brands here include APA/URO Parts, Dorman, Mopar, Genuine and SKP.

Installing a new mast

Most masts unscrew by hand or with a small wrench at the flat near the base. Clean the threads on the base and check that the base is not cracked.

Thread the new mast in by hand to avoid cross threading, then snug it. Use the vehicle selector and read the fitment table to confirm the mast fits your year and model. Some vehicles need a short adapter, which a listing will note when included.

Antenna Mast questions

Do shorter antenna masts reduce reception?

They can. A shorter mast may pick up weaker signals, especially far from the station. In cities the difference is often small.

How do I remove a stuck antenna mast?

Use a wrench on the flat near the base and turn counterclockwise. A little penetrating oil on the threads can help on a corroded mast.

Can I replace the mast without the base?

On most fixed antennas, yes. The mast threads into the base, so you can swap it in minutes without removing trim.
