Hazard Flasher Switch

A hazard flasher switch turns on all four turn signals at once so other drivers can see you are stopped or in trouble. We carry 36 hazard switches from $14 to $214 for vehicles from 1976-2019, from Standard Motor Products, AC Delco, Motorcraft and Dorman, with fits for the Chevrolet Malibu and Ford Explorer.

Where the switch sits

Depending on the vehicle, the hazard switch is a button on the dash or center stack, or part of the steering column. On some vehicles it is built into the multifunction or turn signal switch, which is why some listings here mention turn signal functions.

Know which design you have before you order, as a dash button and a column switch are different parts and install differently.

Signs of a bad switch

Hazards that will not turn on, will not turn off, or work only when you press the button a certain way point to the switch. Turn signals that stop working can also be caused by a hazard switch, because both circuits often run through it.

Check the fuse and flasher relay first, and look for burned out bulbs, which can change the flash rate. If those test good, the switch is the next suspect.

Fitment and install tips

Match the year, trim and dash style in the fitment table, and compare the connector and button design with your old part. Some vehicles changed switches mid-year.

For column mounted switches, disconnect the battery and follow the maker's procedure for the airbag before working near the steering wheel. Dash buttons usually come out by releasing a trim panel with a plastic tool.

Hazard Flasher Switch questions

Why won't my hazard lights turn off?

A switch stuck in the on position is the common cause. A faulty flasher relay or a module issue can also be to blame. Test the switch before replacing other parts.

Can a bad hazard switch stop my turn signals?

Yes. On many vehicles the turn signal circuit passes through the hazard switch, so a worn switch can stop both from working. Test the fuse and flasher before replacing the switch.

Is the hazard switch part of the turn signal switch?

On some steering column designs, yes. On others it is a separate dash button. The listing details and fitment table show which design fits your vehicle.
