Turn Signal Switch

The turn signal switch is the lever on your steering column that controls your blinkers and, on many vehicles, the headlights, wipers and cruise control. We list 31 switches from $23 to $227 for 1988-2013 vehicles, from AC Delco, Dorman, Brock and SKP, with many for the Chevrolet Equinox.

Signs of a bad switch

Common symptoms include turn signals that work only one way, signals that do not cancel after a turn, a lever that feels loose or will not click into place, and high beams or wipers that stop working when the lever is moved.

If both turn signals have stopped at once, check the flasher relay and fuse first. A single side out usually points to a bulb or the switch.

Multifunction switch features

Many switches are multifunction units. Listings show which features are included, such as cruise control set, resume and cancel, and windshield wiper controls. Pick a switch that matches the functions on your old lever.

Check the connector count and color as well. Trucks with and without cruise control, or with different wiper options, can use different switches in the same model year.

Installation and safety

Disconnect the battery before working on the steering column. Many vehicles have an airbag in the steering wheel, and some switches sit close to the clockspring. Wait the time specified in the service manual after disconnecting the battery before removing any trim near the airbag.

Remove the column covers, unplug the connector and take out the screws holding the switch. Test all functions before refitting the covers. Confirm your trim and options in the fitment table.

Turn Signal Switch questions

Why do my turn signals not cancel after a turn?

The canceling cam or the switch mechanism may be worn or broken. Replacing the turn signal switch usually restores normal canceling. A worn switch can also make signals flicker in and out.

Is the turn signal switch the same as the multifunction switch?

On many vehicles, yes. The single lever controls turn signals, high beams, wipers and sometimes cruise control, and it is sold as one unit. Compare the functions on your old lever with the listing.

Do I need to remove the airbag to replace the switch?

Not always. Many switches are reached by removing the column covers. Always disconnect the battery and follow the service procedure for your vehicle. Wait the time specified before working near the airbag.
