Bug Shield
A bug shield, also called a hood deflector, mounts at the front edge of the hood to help redirect bugs, gravel and road debris away from the paint and windshield. We list 64 bug shields from $37 to $165 for 1994-2022 vehicles. Auto Ventshade makes nearly all of them, with the most options for the Chevrolet Silverado, Tahoe, Ford Escape and Explorer.

Styles and finishes
Bug shields come in wrap around designs that follow the hood edge to the fenders and low profile designs that sit closer to the hood. Finishes in our listings include smoke, chrome and black.
Materials include acrylic, ABS and thermoplastic. Acrylic shields are often tinted smoke, while chrome finishes usually use plated plastic. Pick the style that suits the look of your truck or SUV and how much frontal coverage you want.
Mounting options
Some bug shields install with no drilling, using clips under the hood edge or adhesive tape. Others need small holes drilled in the hood edge or inner panel. Listings note whether drilling is required.
No drill shields are easy to remove later, while drilled mounts can hold more firmly at highway speed. Read the instruction sheet before you start, and clean the mounting area with the cleaner supplied or rubbing alcohol.
Fitment check
Bug shields are shaped to one hood design, so fit depends on the exact model and year range. Pick your vehicle and read the fitment table. Heavy duty and light duty versions of the same truck often have different hoods, and a mid cycle refresh can change the hood shape.
Test fit the shield before removing any tape backing. Install it in mild weather, since adhesive bonds poorly in the cold. Check that the hood opens and closes without the shield touching the grille or fenders.
Bug Shield questions
Do bug shields really work?
A bug shield changes the airflow over the hood, which can lift some bugs and small debris over the windshield. Results vary by vehicle and speed.
Do I have to drill my hood to install a bug shield?
Not always. Many shields clip or tape on. Check the drilling required note in each listing before you order.
Can I go through a car wash with a bug shield?
Most shields are fine in touchless washes. Brush style washes can catch the edge, so check the maker's care notes.
