What the strip does
Impact strips protect the bumper surface from parking lot taps, shopping carts and door contact. They are designed to flex and recover, so the bumper cover or chrome bar behind them stays clean.
Over time, strips crack, fade, shrink or peel away at the ends. A loose strip can flap and let water collect behind it. Replacing a worn strip is a low cost way to tidy the look of an older vehicle.
Front, rear and center
Strips are listed by position: front, rear, front center, front left, rear center, rear right and rear left, plus driver and passenger side pieces. Some bumpers use a single long strip, while others use a center piece with separate ends.
Match the profile and length to your old strip, and check whether it attaches with clips, studs or adhesive tape. Brands here include Action Crash, TechPro, APA/URO Parts, Genuine and OE Supplier.
Fitment and install
Read the fitment table for trim and bumper type. European models such as the BMW 3 Series and Porsche 911 often changed bumper styles with sport packages and model year updates.
Remove the old strip and clean any adhesive residue with a plastic scraper and adhesive remover. If the new strip uses tape, apply it in warm weather on a clean, dry surface. Press firmly along the full length and avoid washing the vehicle for a day.
Bumper Impact Strip questions
Can I glue a loose bumper impact strip back on?
Sometimes, with the right automotive adhesive or tape. If the strip is cracked or shrunk, a replacement fits and looks better.
Do bumper impact strips come with clips?
It varies. Some include clips or tape and some do not. Check the listing, and buy a clip set if your old ones are broken.
Do impact strips need painting?
Most are black rubber or textured plastic and fit as is. Some vehicles have body color strips, which you would paint to match.
