Why replace an emblem

Badges fade, peel, crack and lose their chrome over the years, and they are often lost in car washes or damaged in minor collisions. A new emblem is a simple way to restore the look of the front or rear of the vehicle after paint or body work. Some owners also replace a badge to match a specific edition, such as the Corvette crossed flags or a 50th Anniversary design, where the vehicle originally carried it.

Position, design and finish

Emblems here are listed for the front, rear or right side. Finishes include chrome, chrome and graphite, black and white, and designs include crossed flags, the bowtie and 50th Anniversary badges. Sizes vary, such as the 150mm badges used on some models. Check whether the emblem attaches with adhesive tape, pins that push into holes in the panel, or clips. If the panel has holes, a pin-style badge must match their spacing.

Fitting a new badge

Choose your year, make and model and check the fitment table for trim and position. Before removing an adhesive badge, mark its position with masking tape. Warm the old emblem with a hair dryer and cut through the adhesive with fishing line or a plastic tool rather than a blade. Remove leftover adhesive with a product safe for paint, then clean the area with rubbing alcohol. Apply the new badge in mild temperatures and press it firmly in place.

Emblem questions

How do I remove an old emblem without damaging the paint?

Warm the emblem with a hair dryer to soften the adhesive, then saw through it with fishing line or dental floss. Peel off the remaining tape and use an adhesive remover that is safe for automotive paint.

Do new emblems come with adhesive?

Most adhesive-mounted emblems arrive with tape already applied. Pin or clip mounted badges may need clips or nuts. Check the listing details and compare with how your old badge was attached.

How do I line up a new emblem in the right spot?

Before removing the old badge, outline it with masking tape. If it is already gone, measure from body lines or use the other side of the vehicle as a reference, and check that pin holes line up.
