Fender flares are wheel arch extensions that cover wider tires and protect the paint from mud, stones and road spray. We list 31 fender flares from $35 to $499 for 1977-2020 vehicles, led by Bushwacker, Trail Ridge and Lund, with fits for the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and 2500 HD, Jeep Wrangler and Commander, Chevrolet S10 and Dodge Dakota.

Why owners add flares

Flares add coverage over the tire tread, which helps keep mud and gravel off the body and other vehicles, especially with larger or wider tires. Some states have rules about how much tire may stick out past the body, so check yours if you are fitting wider wheels. Flares also give trucks and SUVs a tougher look, and replacing cracked or faded factory flares tidies up an older vehicle.

Style, sets and materials

Flares here are made from ABS thermoplastic in black, with pocket rivet styles that show exposed bolt heads. Sets come as front and rear, 4 piece or 6 piece, and some single positions are listed, such as front left or rear left. Some kits need drilling into the fender and some use existing holes, so check the drilling required field. Many black flares can be painted to match your body if you prefer.

Fitment and installation

Choose your year, make and model and check the fitment table for bed length, cab style and bumper type, since rear flares change with bed length and front flares can depend on the bumper. Factory mud flaps, running boards or factory flares can affect fit. Clean the paint where the flare touches it. Test-fit each flare before drilling, apply any supplied edge trim or tape, and tighten the hardware evenly so the flare sits flush.

Fender Flares questions

Do fender flares require drilling?

Some do and some do not. Many pocket style flares need holes drilled in the fender. Others bolt to existing holes or use clips. Check the drilling required field on the listing.

Can I paint black fender flares?

Many ABS flares can be painted with proper prep, including scuffing and an adhesion promoter. Check the maker's instructions for the recommended paint process.

Will fender flares fit with my mud flaps?

Some do, while others require removing factory mud flaps or using flare-specific ones. Read the listing notes and fitment table before you order.
