Hood Hinge

A hood hinge connects the hood to the body and controls how it opens and closes. We carry 31 hood hinges from $23 to $200 for vehicles from 1963-2022, from Action Crash, APA/URO Parts, Putco and DIY Solutions, with fits for the Chevrolet Impala and Equinox, Jeep Wrangler and Toyota models.

Signs of a bad hinge

Hinges can bend in a front end collision, seize from rust, or wear at the pivots. Signs include a hood that sits crooked, uneven gaps, a hood that is hard to open or close, creaking or popping, and a hood that will not line up with the latch.

On some vehicles the hinge also holds a spring that helps lift the hood, and a broken spring can let the hood drop.

Side and condition options

Hinges are listed by side. Left means the driver side and right means the passenger side. If both sides are bent from a collision, replace both so the hood moves evenly.

Listings show quality, such as premium new replacement or reconditioned original equipment. Mounting hardware is not included with the hinges here, so plan to reuse your bolts. Some listings are a hinge spring only, so check the package contents.

Install tips

Support the hood with a helper or a prop before removing a hinge. Mark the hinge outline on the hood and body with a marker so you can start close to the old alignment.

Snug the bolts, close the hood gently, and adjust for even gaps before final tightening. Lubricate the pivots with a light grease or spray lube. Check that the latch and safety catch engage fully.

Hood Hinge questions

Should I replace both hood hinges?

If both are bent or worn, yes. If only one side was damaged and the other moves freely and looks straight, replacing one is fine.

Do hood hinges come with bolts?

The hinges listed here do not include mounting hardware. Reuse your bolts if they are in good condition, or buy new ones of the same grade.

Why does my hood not line up after a hinge change?

Hinge bolts have some adjustment. Loosen them slightly, shift the hood until the gaps are even, then tighten. Adjust the latch and bumpers last. Small changes at the hinge make a big difference at the front edge.
