When to replace a hood
Hoods are often replaced after a front end collision, hail damage, or deep rust along the front edge and seams. A bent hood may not latch securely, which is a safety concern, since a hood that opens at speed blocks your view.
If the inner bracing is bent or the latch area is damaged, replacing the hood is usually simpler than repair.
Fitment and what to transfer
Hoods differ by model year, trim and engine, especially on trucks where some versions have vents, scoops or different grille openings. Check the fitment table carefully for your exact trim.
Most replacement hoods do not include the emblem, insulation pad, washer nozzles, hinges or latch hardware. Plan to transfer these parts from your old hood or order new ones. Hoods typically need paint to match your vehicle.
Installation tips
A hood is heavy and awkward, so have a helper. Mark the hinge positions on the old hood before removal to make alignment easier.
Bolt the new hood on loosely, close it gently, and adjust for even gaps with the fenders and grille. Set the hood bumpers and latch so it closes flush and locks firmly. Check the safety catch before driving.
