Mud Flaps

Mud flaps sit behind the wheels and stop tires from throwing mud, gravel, salt and water onto your paint and the vehicles behind you. We list 34 mud flaps from $8 to $450 by Husky Liner, WeatherTech, Dee Zee and Putco, covering Ram 1500, Silverado 2500 HD, S10 and Dakota pickups among others.

What mud flaps protect

Tires pick up rocks and road grime and fling them backward. Without flaps, that debris chips the lower doors, rocker panels and bumpers, and builds up in the wheel wells where it can trap moisture. Flaps also cut down on spray hitting the vehicle behind you. Many owners add them to pickups and SUVs that see gravel roads, job sites or winter salt.

Front pair or rear pair

Mud flaps are sold as a front pair or a rear pair. Front flaps protect the rocker panels and the front of the rear wheel opening, while rear flaps protect the rear bumper and anything you tow. Most owners who want full coverage buy both pairs.

Contour styles follow the shape of the fender for a tidy look, while larger flat flaps give more coverage on lifted trucks.

Material and fitment

Options here include TPO thermoplastic, molded plastic, recycled rubber and composite. Rubber flexes over curbs and in cold weather, while molded plastic holds its shape and looks closer to factory trim.

Vehicle-specific flaps are shaped for your wheel opening and often use existing holes, but some need drilling. Fender flares, running boards and factory flares can change which flap fits, so check the fitment notes for your trim. Read the install instructions before you start so you know whether you need to remove a wheel.

Mud Flaps questions

Do I need to remove the wheels to install mud flaps?

Not always. Many vehicle-specific flaps can be installed with the wheels on, especially if you turn the steering to reach the front flaps. Some rear flaps are easier with the wheel off. Check the product instructions for your model.

Will mud flaps fit with fender flares?

It depends on the flap. Some are designed for factory flares, while others only fit trucks without them. Check the fitment notes for your trim and any flares or running boards you have added.

Are mud flaps worth it on a pickup truck?

If you drive on gravel, dirt or salted roads, flaps cut down on rock chips along the lower body and reduce spray onto trailers and other vehicles. On a truck that stays on clean pavement, the benefit is smaller.
