When to replace a soft top
Fabric tops wear out from sun, cold and repeated folding. Signs include faded or cracked fabric, torn seams, cloudy or scratched windows, broken zippers and water leaking in at the door or windshield edges.
If only one part is worn, such as the windows or a seal, a repair may be enough. A top with torn fabric and cloudy windows is usually best replaced in full.
Styles and materials
Options here include full OE style replacement tops, mesh bikini style tops that shade the cabin, and modular designs. Materials include black denim and Black Diamond fabric, which give a different look and texture.
Some tops need a windshield channel, and some require drilling to mount. Check what the install needs before you start, and confirm the top suits your existing bows and hardware.
Fitment and install tips
Soft tops are specific to the body style and year range. CJ5, Wrangler generations, Tracker and Samurai tops all differ. Check the fitment table, and note whether your vehicle has full doors or half doors.
Install the top on a warm day if you can, since the fabric is more flexible when warm. Leave it fully closed for a day or two so it can stretch and settle before you fold it down.
Soft Top questions
Will a soft top fit any Jeep Wrangler?
No. Wrangler soft tops vary by generation and by two door or four door body, and some need specific bows and hardware. Check the fitment table for your exact model and year.
Do I need to drill to install a soft top?
Some tops in this group require drilling and others do not. The listing details show whether drilling or a windshield channel is needed, so read them before buying.
How do I stop my soft top windows from scratching?
Rinse off dust before wiping, use a soft cloth and a cleaner made for clear vinyl, and avoid paper towels or household glass cleaners. Roll windows carefully when storing them.
