Window Motor

A window motor drives the regulator that raises and lowers your door glass. We list 39 motors from $21 to $332 for 1981-2018 vehicles, from Dorman, A1 Cardone, AC Delco, ACI and SKP. Fits include the Chevrolet Camaro and Equinox and the Ford F150, with positions for each door and some tailgate windows.

Signs the motor has failed

A window that moves slowly, stops partway or does not move at all can point to a worn motor. If you hear the motor running but the glass does not move, the regulator is more likely broken.

Before replacing the motor, check the fuse, test the switch and look for broken wires in the door jamb boot. If the window works from one switch but not another, the switch is the likely fault.

Position and features

Window motors are specific to each door. Check the position field for front left, front right, rear left, rear right or tailgate. Left means driver side.

Some vehicles have anti-pinch or auto up features, and those motors include a sensor or module. Listings show whether the motor is anti-pinch. Some motors include screws and an instruction sheet. If your regulator is also worn, consider a regulator and motor assembly.

Installation tips

Disconnect the battery, remove the door panel and peel back the vapor barrier carefully so you can reseal it. Tape the glass up or support it before removing the motor so it does not drop.

Fit the new motor, reconnect it and test before reinstalling the panel. Some vehicles need a window initialization after the job to restore auto up and down. Confirm your year and trim in the fitment table.

Window Motor questions

How do I know if it is the motor or the regulator?

If the motor runs but the window does not move or moves crooked, the regulator is likely broken. If there is no sound at all, test the motor, switch and fuse.

Do I need to reset my window after replacing the motor?

Many vehicles with auto up need an initialization. Usually you hold the switch up for a few seconds after the window closes. Check your owner's manual.

Should I buy a motor and regulator together?

If the regulator cables are frayed or the tracks are bent, an assembly saves time. If only the motor has failed, the motor alone is enough.
