Signs of a bad window switch
If a window works from the master switch but not from its own door switch, or the other way around, the switch is the likely fault. Other signs include switches that work only when pressed hard, windows that move one way only and sticky buttons from spilled drinks.
If no windows work at all, check the fuse, relay and the window lockout button before buying a switch.
Master or single switch
The driver door has a master switch that controls all windows and often includes the window lock and sometimes power locks and mirrors. Passenger doors usually have single switches.
Check the position field for front left, front right or other doors. Compare the button count, connector and finish, such as black, chrome or pewter, with your old switch. Some vehicles also used different switches for trims with auto down windows.
Installation tips
Many switches pop out of the door panel or armrest with a plastic trim tool. Others need the door panel removed. Disconnect the battery before unplugging the connector.
Plug the new switch in and test every function before snapping it into place. Use the fitment table for your year, trim and door count. A two door and four door version of the same model often use different master switches.
Window Switch questions
Why does my window only work from the driver's switch?
The passenger door switch has likely failed, since the master switch can still control the motor. Replacing the door switch usually fixes it. Test the new switch before refitting the trim.
Does the master window switch include the door lock button?
On many vehicles, yes. Some master switches also include mirror controls. Compare the buttons on the listing with your old switch. Make sure the connector matches too.
Can I replace a window switch without removing the door panel?
On many vehicles the switch pops out from the top of the panel with a trim tool. Some vehicles require removing the door panel. Use a plastic tool to avoid scratching the trim.
