Brake Pads

Brake pads press against the rotors to slow and stop your vehicle. We carry 39 brake pad sets and pad kits from $17 to $355 for 1970-2025 vehicles. The Chevrolet Corvette and Camaro have the most listings, along with the Silverado 1500, Honda Pilot, Nissan Altima and Ford F150.

Signs your pads are worn

Pads have a steel backing plate and a friction layer that wears down with use. Many have a small metal tab that squeals when the pad gets thin.

Signs include a high pitched squeal when braking, a grinding noise, a brake warning light on vehicles with pad sensors, longer stopping distances and a pedal that vibrates. Check pad thickness through the wheel or with the wheel off. Grinding often means the pad is down to metal and may be damaging the rotor.

Friction material and kits

Ceramic pads are quiet and produce little dust, which suits daily driving. Semi-metallic pads handle heat well and are common on trucks and towing vehicles. Some listings are carbon fiber ceramic performance pads.

Check whether shims and a wear sensor are included. Several listings are complete kits with rotors and pads for front and rear. Always replace pads on both sides of an axle together, and consider new or resurfaced rotors at the same time.

Fitment and install

Read the fitment table for brake package, trim and caliper type. Performance trims and heavy duty trucks often have larger calipers than the base model.

Support the vehicle on jack stands. Clean and lubricate the slide pins and pad contact points, and compress the caliper piston slowly. Pump the pedal before driving, then follow the pad maker's bedding steps to seat the new pads.

Brake Pads questions

Should I replace brake rotors with new pads?

It is common practice to replace or resurface rotors with new pads, especially if they are scored, warped or below minimum thickness.

Are ceramic or semi-metallic brake pads better?

Ceramic pads are quieter and cleaner for daily driving. Semi-metallic pads handle more heat, which suits towing and heavy use.

How do I bed in new brake pads?

Follow the pad maker's steps. A common method is several moderate stops from about 35 mph without coming to a full stop, then letting the brakes cool.
