When to replace an AC hose

AC hoses combine rubber sections with aluminum tubes and crimped fittings. Over time the rubber hardens and cracks, and fittings corrode or loosen.

Signs of a leaking hose include slowly fading cooling over weeks, oily residue on the hose or fitting, a hiss near the line with the engine off, and dye showing under UV light. A hose rubbing on a bracket or exhaust part can wear through, so look at where your old one was routed.

Finding the right section

Hoses are named for where they run. Our listings include compressor to condenser, condenser to evaporator, at evaporator, compressor to separation point and rear lines. Some are discharge lines with a muffler, and some include a manifold that bolts to the compressor.

Check whether gaskets or seals are included, and whether the fittings come with the hose. Most listings here use R134A. Match the shape and fitting ends to your old hose.

Fitment and service notes

Pick your vehicle and read the fitment table for engine and rear air notes. A V8 and a V6 version can use different hose routing.

Recover the refrigerant before loosening any fitting. Use new O-rings or sealing washers, lubricated with the correct oil. Replace the drier or accumulator, then pull a vacuum before recharging. Secure the new hose in its original clips so it does not chafe.

AC Hose questions

Can I repair a leaking AC hose instead of replacing it?

Some shops can re-crimp a hose with new fittings, but a cracked or worn rubber section is usually replaced as an assembly. Replacement is the common fix at home.

What does a muffler on an AC hose do?

The muffler reduces pulsation noise from the compressor discharge. If your original hose had one, choose a replacement listed with a muffler.

Do I need to recharge the AC after replacing a hose?

Yes. The system must be recovered before the hose comes off, then evacuated and recharged with the correct amount of refrigerant and oil afterward.
