Heater Hose

A heater hose carries hot coolant between the engine and the heater core. We list 35 heater hoses from $3 to $54 for Chevrolet vehicles from 1980-2015, from Gates, Dayco, AC Delco and ContiTech, with fits for the Camaro and Corvette.

Why heater hoses wear out

Heater hoses run hot and pressurized. Over time the rubber hardens, cracks, swells or goes soft and spongy, and the inside can break down and shed debris. Hoses near the exhaust or sharp edges can also chafe through.

Signs include visible cracks, coolant drips, a sweet smell, a hose that feels mushy or crunchy when squeezed, and steam from under the hood.

Reading the position names

Molded heater hoses are shaped for one routing, so listings name each end, such as heater to engine, valve to engine, tank to tee, or throttle body to intake manifold. Some vehicles route coolant through the throttle body, which is why those positions appear here.

Match the position, engine and year in the fitment table, and compare bends and fitting sizes with your old hose.

Replacement tips

Let the engine cool fully before you open the cooling system, as hot coolant can scald. Drain enough coolant to keep spills down, and inspect the clamps, replacing any that are rusted or weak.

Check the other heater hoses while you are there, since they age at the same rate. Refill with the correct coolant type, bleed air from the system, and check for leaks after a warm up.

Heater Hose questions

How do I know if my heater hose is bad?

Look for cracks, bulges, leaks or a soft, spongy feel. A hose that is very hard or crunchy has also aged out. Replace it before it bursts.

What do heater hose position names mean?

They describe what the hose connects, such as heater to engine or valve to engine. Match the name on the listing to where the hose sits on your vehicle.

Should I replace all heater hoses at once?

It is a good idea on older vehicles. Hoses age together, so if one has failed, the others may follow soon. Check the clamps at the same time and replace any that are weak.
