Climate Control

HVAC Control Module

An HVAC control module is the panel or unit that runs your heat, air conditioning, fan speed and vent settings. We carry 35 HVAC control modules from $42 to $451 for vehicles from 1988-2021, from Dorman, AC Delco and Programa, with fits for the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Malibu, Equinox and Impala.

Signs of a failing module

Common signs include buttons that do nothing, a display that is dark or missing segments, the fan stuck on one speed, air coming from the wrong vents, or the temperature not changing. Backlighting that has burned out also leads many owners to replace the panel.

Before replacing it, check the HVAC fuses, the blower motor resistor and the blend door actuators. Some climate faults set codes you can read with a scan tool.

Matching the right unit

Controls differ by trim and options, such as manual or automatic climate control, single or dual zone, and rear defrost or heated seat buttons. Match these features as well as the year and model.

The modules listed here are electronic, manual control units that do not require programming. Some include a blank button for a feature your vehicle does not have. Wiring and mounting hardware are not included.

Install tips

Disconnect the battery before removing dash trim. Use plastic trim tools to release the bezel, then remove the screws holding the module and unplug the connectors.

After fitting the new module, reconnect the battery and test every function: fan speeds, mode doors, temperature, AC request and defrost. Some vehicles run a short calibration of the blend doors at the first key on, so wait a minute before testing.

HVAC Control Module questions

Do I need to program a new HVAC control module?

The modules listed here are marked as not requiring programming. Some vehicles run a blend door calibration on their own after the first key on.

Why does my AC fan only work on high?

On many vehicles that points to a failed blower motor resistor rather than the control module. Test the resistor before replacing the panel. The resistor often sits near the blower motor under the dash.

Will an automatic climate control panel fit a manual system?

No. Manual and automatic systems use different modules and wiring. Order the type your vehicle came with. Look at your current panel to see whether it shows a set temperature or an AUTO button.
