Exhaust
Muffler
A muffler quiets the pressure pulses that leave your engine so the exhaust note drops to a livable level. Our 33 mufflers range from $8 to $531 from Walker, Flowmaster, Dynomax, AP Exhaust and Mopar, with direct replacement and universal options for Chevrolet Camaro, Corvette and more.

Signs your muffler needs replacing
The most obvious sign is a louder exhaust, often with a rumble or blat that was not there before. Rust holes, split seams and a rattle from loose internal baffles are also common. If you smell exhaust inside the cabin, have the system checked right away, because exhaust gases contain carbon monoxide.
Check the pipes, hangers and clamps at the same time. A broken hanger can make a good muffler rattle against the body.
Muffler types and sound
Absorption mufflers pass exhaust through a perforated tube wrapped in packing, which gives a deeper tone with little restriction. Reflection mufflers, often called chambered, bounce sound waves off internal walls to cancel them. Combination designs use both.
Performance lines such as the Flowmaster 40 Series and Super 44 Series give a louder, more aggressive sound than a stock replacement from Walker. Check local noise rules before you choose a loud design.
Size, layout and material
Match the inlet and outlet pipe diameters and the layout, such as center or offset inlet and outlet. Direct OE replacement mufflers bolt or clamp in using your existing hangers, while universal mufflers may need cutting, clamps or welding.
Aluminized steel is common and affordable. Stainless steel, including 304 stainless, resists rust longer in salted regions. Some vehicles, like dual exhaust Corvettes, use left and right mufflers that are not interchangeable, so check the position in the listing.
Muffler questions
Is it illegal to remove or replace a muffler with a louder one?
Most states require a working muffler and set noise limits for vehicles. Rules vary, so check your state and local laws before installing a loud performance muffler or removing one.
Will a new muffler improve performance?
A free flowing muffler can reduce back pressure slightly, but on a stock engine the change is usually small. The bigger differences are sound and durability. Gains are more likely when paired with other exhaust and tuning changes.
Can I install a muffler without welding?
Yes, in many cases. Direct fit mufflers often use clamps and your factory hangers. Universal mufflers can be fitted with clamps if the pipe sizes match. Support the vehicle securely on jack stands before working underneath.
