Fuel Tank
A fuel tank holds your vehicle's fuel and houses the pump and sending unit on most fuel injected models. We list 119 fuel tanks from $63 to $1671 for vehicles from 1958-2020, from brands such as Dorman, Spectra Premium, Action Crash and DIY Solutions, with many fits for Ford and Chevrolet.

When a tank needs replacing
Steel tanks rust from the outside, especially along seams and straps, and from the inside when water collects in the fuel. Plastic tanks can crack from impact or develop leaks at the pump opening. Signs include a fuel smell, wet spots or drips under the tank, evaporative leak codes, and rust flakes clogging filters.
A tank with rust inside can keep clogging new pumps and filters, so replacement is often the long term fix.
Capacity, position and package contents
Tanks are made for a specific chassis, so match the capacity and position. Some trucks have front and rear tanks or different capacities by wheelbase and cab style. Listed capacities here run from 15.4 gallons to 40 gallons.
Package contents vary. Some tanks come bare, some include a lock ring and O-ring, and some come with straps and a pump hanger. Check whether your old straps, heat shield and filler hose are reusable.
Installation tips
Drain or run down the fuel first, then disconnect the battery. Support the vehicle securely on jack stands and support the tank with a jack before removing the straps. Work outdoors or in a ventilated space with no ignition sources.
Use a new pump seal and lock ring if they are not included, and transfer the pump only if it is in good shape. Check the fitment table for trim and wheelbase, and compare the old tank's shape before installing.
Fuel Tank questions
Do new fuel tanks come with a fuel pump?
Most do not. A few listings include a pump hanger with pump, but many are the tank alone or with a lock ring and seal. Check the package contents on each listing.
How do I know which fuel tank fits my truck?
Check year, cab style, bed length or wheelbase, and tank capacity in the fitment table. Pickups like the F150 and F250 used several tank sizes in the same model year.
Can I repair a leaking fuel tank instead of replacing it?
Small leaks are sometimes patched, but rusted or cracked tanks usually need replacement. Rust inside the tank will keep contaminating the fuel system even after a patch.
