Strut Mount
A strut mount secures the top of the strut to the body and, on the front of many vehicles, includes a bearing that lets the strut turn as you steer. We list 33 strut mounts from $13 to $139 by Monroe, KYB, Mevotech, AC Delco and Anchor, with strong coverage for Chevrolet Impala plus Mini Cooper, Hyundai Sonata and Mercedes.

Signs of a worn strut mount
Common signs include a clunk or knock over bumps, a creak or pop when turning the steering wheel, and steering that feels notchy or binds. A collapsed rubber insulator can let the strut sit lower or shift, which may affect alignment.
Open the hood and watch the top of the strut tower while a helper turns the wheel. Excess movement or a grinding feel points to a worn mount or bearing.
What is in the box
Mounts vary in what comes with them. Listings show whether the bearing, coil spring seat, insulator, washer, bolts and nuts are included. Positions in this group include front upper, rear upper, lower, front left and rear right.
If your strut has a separate bearing that is not included, order it at the same time. Check the fitment table for year, model and suspension type.
Replace with struts
Since the strut must be removed and the spring compressed to reach the mount, most owners replace mounts when installing new struts. A complete strut assembly comes with a new mount already fitted.
Use a proper spring compressor and follow the instructions closely, since a compressed coil spring stores a lot of energy. Tighten the upper nuts to spec and get a wheel alignment after front strut work.
Strut Mount questions
Should I replace strut mounts with new struts?
It is a good idea if the mounts are original or show wear. The strut is already apart, so replacing the mount adds little labor and prevents a second teardown later.
What does a bad strut mount bearing sound like?
It often makes a creak, pop or groan when you turn the steering wheel, especially at low speed or while parking. You may also feel the steering bind slightly.
Do I need an alignment after replacing strut mounts?
Yes, in most cases. Removing and reinstalling front struts and mounts can change camber and toe. An alignment keeps the vehicle tracking straight.
