About this part

On the 5.9L Ram, the idle air control valve regulates air around the throttle plate to set idle speed. A failing valve leads to a surging idle, stalling when the clutch or brake comes on, or a slow return to idle after you lift off the gas. The AC68 is Standard Motor Products' replacement, and gaskets come with it so the seal at the throttle body is fresh. A dirty throttle body can mimic a bad valve, so clean it first.

Fitment notes

The AC68 is listed for the 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 with the 5.9L V8 gas engine. The diesel Ram uses no idle air control valve of this type. If you have a different engine, look for another part. The fitment table shows the listed version, and we can check your VIN for you.

Installation notes

Disconnect the battery before unplugging the valve. Clean the throttle body passages and use the new gasket. After reconnecting, start the engine and let it idle with accessories off so the computer can relearn idle.
