This EGR valve recirculates a controlled amount of exhaust into the intake on the 1.7L Civic. That lowers combustion temperatures and reduces NOx emissions. On these engines the valve and its port can clog with carbon, leading to EGR flow codes, a rough idle or a hesitation under light throttle. Installation notes

Disconnect the battery before unplugging the valve. Clean carbon from the intake manifold EGR port, which often causes repeat codes. Fit a new gasket, tighten the nuts evenly and clear codes with a scan tool.
