Why replace a wheel cover

Wheel covers fall off after hitting potholes or curbs, crack in cold weather or get scraped against curbs. A missing cover leaves one wheel looking different from the rest and exposes the steel wheel to dirt and road salt.

You can replace a single cover to match your set or buy a full set if several are worn or faded.

Size, design and attachment

Wheel cover size must match the wheel diameter, such as 15, 16, 18 or 19 inches. The tire sidewall shows the wheel size, for example 16 in a size like 215/60R16.

Designs include 5 spoke, 5 split spoke, 7 double spoke and others in gray, black, silver or chrome and gray finishes. Most are ABS plastic. Some covers are held by a retaining ring, while others bolt on with the lug nuts. Compare with your existing covers before ordering.

Fitting tips

Line up the valve stem notch on the cover with the valve stem on the wheel. For clip-on covers, press around the edge evenly with the palms of your hands, not with a hammer.

Covers that bolt on under the lug nuts need the lugs removed and refitted, so torque them to spec. Check the fitment table, as similar looking covers can vary in clip design between model years.

Wheel Cover questions

How do I know what size wheel cover I need?

Read the tire sidewall. The number after the R, such as R16, is your wheel diameter in inches. Buy covers in that size. Write it down before you shop.

Can I buy a single wheel cover?

Yes. Many listings are single covers so you can replace one that was lost. Check the listing to see if it is sold as one piece or a set.

Why do my wheel covers keep falling off?

Bent retaining clips, a weak retaining ring or a wrong size cover are common causes. A new cover in the correct size usually holds better.
