Wheel Hub

A wheel hub assembly combines the bearing, flange and wheel studs in one bolt-in unit, and on many vehicles it also carries the ABS sensor. We list 36 hubs and hub kits from $37 to $303 for 1999-2020 vehicles, from DriveBolt, AC Delco, Pronto and DuraGo, with many for the Chevrolet Camaro, Silverado 1500 and Ford F150.

Signs a hub assembly is failing

The bearing inside the hub wears with mileage and water intrusion. Common signs include a humming or grinding noise that rises with speed, a loose wheel when you rock it, steering wheel vibration and ABS or traction control lights if the built in sensor fails.

Because the hub is sealed, you cannot grease or adjust it. When it wears, the whole assembly is replaced.

Front, rear and ABS

Front and rear hubs are usually different parts. On 4WD trucks the front hub has splines for the axle shaft, while 2WD versions do not. Check the position and drive type in the fitment table.

Listings show the lug count, whether studs are included and whether the hub has an ABS sensor and connector. Match the connector shape to your harness. Some listings are repair kits with only part of the hub assembly, so read the contents carefully.

Installation advice

Support the vehicle on stands, remove the wheel, caliper and rotor, then unbolt the hub. Rusted hubs can stick in the knuckle, so use penetrating oil and a proper puller rather than heavy hammer blows on the new part.

Clean the knuckle mounting surface, torque the hub bolts and axle nut to spec and reconnect the ABS sensor. Do not use an impact gun to tighten the axle nut, as it can damage the bearing.

Wheel Hub questions

What is the difference between a wheel hub and a wheel bearing?

A hub assembly is a sealed unit with the bearing, flange and studs together. A wheel bearing alone is pressed or packed into the hub or knuckle.

Will a 2WD hub fit a 4WD truck?

Usually not. 4WD front hubs have splines for the axle shaft. Check the fitment table for drive type before ordering. Compare the old hub's flange and stud count as well.

Can a bad hub cause an ABS light?

Yes. On many vehicles the ABS sensor or tone ring is built into the hub. A failed sensor or worn bearing can set ABS codes.
