Throttle Position Sensor
The throttle position sensor tells the engine computer how far the throttle is open. We list 35 sensors from $14 to $158 for 1984-2015 vehicles, from Standard Motor Products, Walker, AC Delco and Beck Arnley, including many for the Chevrolet Camaro and others for the Dodge Ram 2500 and Jeep Wrangler.

Symptoms of a bad TPS
The sensor sends a voltage signal that changes as the throttle opens. The engine computer uses it to adjust fuel, timing and, on many automatics, shift points.
When the sensor wears, the signal can drop out at certain positions. Common symptoms include hesitation or surging, an unstable idle, harsh or delayed shifts and a check engine light with a TPS related code. A scan tool or multimeter can show a smooth or jumpy voltage sweep.
Matching the sensor
Sensors differ in connector shape, terminal count and mounting. Listings show details such as an oblong connector with three blade terminals. Compare these with your old sensor.
Some sensors are adjustable and must be set to a specific voltage at closed throttle. Others are fixed and need no adjustment. If your old sensor had slotted mounting holes, it was likely adjustable, and the new one should be set the same way.
Installation notes
Disconnect the battery before unplugging the sensor. Remove the mounting screws, note the orientation and fit the new sensor so it engages the throttle shaft correctly.
On adjustable sensors, set the closed throttle voltage to the factory spec with a multimeter. Some engines need an idle relearn afterward. Use the fitment table for your engine size, because the same model can use different sensors with different engines.
Throttle Position Sensor questions
Can a bad throttle position sensor affect shifting?
Yes. Many automatic transmissions use the TPS signal to decide shift timing and firmness. A faulty sensor can cause late, early or harsh shifts. Your engine may also feel jerky at light throttle.
Do I need to adjust a new throttle position sensor?
Only if it is an adjustable type. Listings show whether the sensor is adjustable. Fixed sensors bolt on in one position and need no setting.
Is the throttle position sensor part of the throttle body?
On many older engines it is a separate sensor that bolts to the throttle body. On many newer electronic throttle bodies, the sensor is built in and not sold separately.
