Matching shocks to your Silverado
The Silverado 1500 spans four generations in this range: 1999-2006, 2007-2013, 2014-2018 and 2019-2021. Shocks from one generation are not a safe swap into another. A 2007 truck can be either the Classic, which carries over the older design, or the redesigned model, so confirm which one you have.
Next, check the position and the drivetrain. Front and rear shocks are different parts, and a 2WD front shock should not be assumed to fit a 4WD truck. Cab and bed length can change the rear listing. Z71, heavy-duty or other suspension packages may use different valving. If your truck has electronic or self-leveling suspension, buy only a unit made for that system.
Signs your shocks are worn
Worn shocks lose damping slowly, so the change is easy to miss. Watch for the truck bouncing more than once after a bump, the nose diving under braking, or the rear squatting and feeling loose when you tow or haul. More body roll and pitching on rough roads point the same way.
Look under the truck for oil on the shock body, torn bushings or bent mounts. Cupped tire wear can come from tired shocks, but alignment, tire pressure and worn ball joints or tie rods cause similar symptoms. Check those parts too before you blame the shocks alone.
Pairs, kits and install tips
Replace shocks in axle pairs, both fronts or both rears, so damping stays even side to side. Many listings sell a single shock, so check if the listing is one unit, a pair or a four-shock set. The TRQ kit in this range also includes coil springs and sway bar links for drivers who want to refresh more at once.
On the rear of 2007-2018 trucks, the job is a lower nut and bolt and an upper bolt with the axle supported on jack stands. Tighten the bushings with the truck at ride height to avoid bushing windup. Replace worn bushings and hardware while you are there, then check tire pressure and road test.

Silverado 1500 questions
Do 2WD and 4WD Silverado 1500 trucks use the same front shocks?
Not always. Front shock fitment for the Silverado 1500 is often split by drivetrain, so a 2WD shock should not be assumed to fit a 4WD truck. Check the drivetrain column in the fitment table for your year before ordering.
How many shock absorbers do I need for my Silverado 1500?
At minimum, buy two for the axle you are servicing, since shocks are replaced in front or rear pairs. If all four are worn, a complete front and rear set covers the truck in one order. Check whether each listing is one shock or a pair.
Will a 2018 Silverado 1500 shock fit a 2019 truck?
No, you should not assume it will. The 2019 Silverado 1500 moved to a new body and chassis, and its shock applications are separate from 2014-2018 trucks. Pick your exact year in the filter and confirm the fitment table.
