Grand Cherokee hood struts change with the body. The 1999-2004 WJ, the 2005-2010 WK and the 2011-2020 WK2 each use their own hood support, so a strut from one will not be the right part for another. Mopar catalogs a different hood support number for each of the three.
Trim, engine, drivetrain and suspension do not appear as fitment factors. Fitment samples here include Laredo, Limited and Sport models with the 4.0L six and the 4.7L V8, and one steel support is marked to fit either side. Make sure the listing is for the hood and not the liftgate, and match the ball socket ends and retaining clips.
When a hood strut is done
Hood struts lose gas pressure with age. The hood sags, drops or will not stay fully open, and cold weather makes it worse. A strut that cannot hold the hood reliably should be replaced before it falls on someone.
