Oil Pump
The oil pump pushes oil from the pan through the filter and into every bearing and passage in the engine. We list 31 oil pumps from $50 to $210 by Melling, Sealed Power, AC Delco and DriveBolt, including standard replacement and higher volume pumps for Camaro, Silverado 1500, F150 and Charger engines.

Signs of oil pump trouble
A failing pump usually shows up as low oil pressure. You may see the oil pressure light flicker at idle, a low gauge reading, or hear valve train ticking because oil is not reaching the lifters.
A faulty oil pressure sender can give the same warning, so confirm the reading with a mechanical gauge before tearing into the engine. Low oil level and a clogged pickup screen are other causes worth ruling out.
Standard or high volume
Standard replacement pumps match factory output. High volume pumps move more oil, with some listings showing 12% or 18% more than stock. They are used in some performance builds or engines with looser clearances, but they are not needed for a stock engine and may need a deeper pan to avoid drawing it low.
Match the inlet size to your pickup tube, since this group includes inlets from 0.875 in to 1.200 in. Some pumps need a separate drive shaft, so read the notes.
Installation tips
Replace the pickup tube and screen or at least clean them, and fit a new pan gasket. Clean the oil pan of any sludge or debris. Prime the pump before first start, either by packing it with assembly lube or by spinning the pump with a priming tool on engines that allow it.
Follow the torque specs for the pump bolts. After startup, watch oil pressure closely and shut down right away if pressure does not come up.
Oil Pump questions
Should I use a high volume oil pump?
For a stock daily driver, a standard volume pump matched to your engine is usually the right choice. High volume pumps suit some performance or rebuilt engines. Ask your engine builder if you are unsure.
Do I need to prime a new oil pump?
Yes. A dry pump may not pick up oil right away, which risks damage during the first seconds of running. Pack it with assembly lube or prime it with a tool before starting the engine.
Should I replace the pickup tube with the oil pump?
It is good practice. The pickup screen can clog with sludge, and a loose pickup can suck air and cause low pressure. A new pickup or a careful cleaning and check for proper seating is worth the small cost.
