Brake fitment by Silverado generation

The Silverado 1500 covers four body generations in these years: 2000-2006, 2007-2013, 2014-2018 and 2019-2023. A 2007 can be the Classic or the new body, and a 2019 can be the new truck or the Silverado 1500 Limited, which kept the older platform. They do not share brake parts by default.

Within a generation, rotor size, pad shape and rear brake design can change with 2WD or 4WD, axle and GVWR rating, wheel size and brake package. Some trucks use rear discs and others use rear shoes, so check the rear brake type. Pads and rotors are sold by axle, but calipers and wear sensors can be side specific.

Signs your brakes need work

Squealing, grinding, a longer pedal or weaker stops point to worn pads or shoes. A pulse in the pedal or steering wheel while braking usually means the rotors are uneven or rusted. Measure rotor thickness against the minimum spec before you decide to reuse them.

If the truck pulls to one side, one wheel runs hot, or one pad wears faster than its partner, look at the caliper slide pins and piston. A brake warning message on the dash is not always a pad issue. It can be an electrical, hydraulic or brake assist fault that needs diagnosis first.

Kits, hardware and the job

A pad and rotor kit, such as the DuraGo and TRQ kits listed here, covers one axle with matching parts. A pad set normally covers both wheels on one axle. Check whether shims, clips or a wear sensor are included, since contents vary by part number.

With the truck on jack stands, remove the caliper and pads, then clean the hub face before fitting a new rotor. Service the slide pins and replace worn abutment clips. If you open the hydraulic system, bleed the brakes before driving. Some later trucks need a set procedure after the caliper pistons are pushed back, so follow the manual for your year.

Silverado 1500 questions

Do 2019 Silverado 1500 and Silverado 1500 Limited brakes interchange?

Not by default. The 2019 Silverado 1500 Limited continued the earlier platform, while the new 2019 truck uses a different design. Confirm which one you own and choose the matching year and body in the fitment table.

Should I replace Silverado 1500 rotors with the pads?

Replace rotors when they are scored, warped, rusted or below minimum thickness. If they measure within spec and run true, new pads alone can work. A pad and rotor kit is a simple choice when both are worn.

Does every Silverado 1500 have rear disc brakes?

No. Rear brake design varies by year and configuration, and this range includes both rear rotors and rear brake shoe sets. Look at your rear wheels or check the fitment notes, which list rear disc where it applies.
