2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD Ignition Coils

Buy Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD ignition coils online for 2001-2021 gas trucks. There are 15 coils, coil kits and coil and wire sets here, priced from $17.72 to $521.95, by AC Delco, Delphi, MSD, TRQ, API and Brock. If your truck has the 6.6L Duramax diesel, it does not use ignition coils, so confirm your engine first.

Which engine is in your truck

Only the gas engines in the Silverado 2500 HD use ignition coils. Fitment samples here include the 6.0L V8, the 8.1L V8 and the 6.6L L8T gas V8 used in later trucks. The body generations run 2001-2006, 2007-2014, 2015-2019 and 2020-2021, with 2007 as a transition year.

Cab, bed, 2WD or 4WD and trim generally do not change the coil. The engine, ignition design and connector do. Some listings note a round coil style for the 6.0L. Match the connector, mounting tabs and bolt holes, and the boot or wire end, to your old coil, and use the number stamped on it when you can.

Symptoms of a failing coil

A failing coil can cause a rough idle, shaking, hesitation, weak acceleration, hard starting, poor fuel economy and a check engine light. Misfire codes are usually P0300 for random misfires or P0301 through P0308 for a single cylinder.

Coils fail from internal breakdown, heat, cracks, corrosion and oil or water getting in. A cracked, melted or burned coil should be replaced. Worn plugs, bad wires or boots, injector faults and vacuum leaks can cause the same misfire, so swap the suspect coil to another cylinder or test it before you buy.

Single coil, kit or set

You can buy a single coil, a direct ignition coil kit from MSD, or a TRQ ignition coil and spark plug wire set. If one coil has failed on a high mileage engine, check the others and the plugs before deciding how many to replace.

Disconnect the negative battery cable, unplug the coil, remove its fastener and seat the new coil fully. Tighten it to spec. Inspect the plug, boot or wire and connector for oil, water, corrosion or carbon tracking, and replace damaged parts so the new coil is not fighting a bad connection. Clear the codes and confirm the misfire is gone.

Silverado 2500 HD questions

Does the Duramax Silverado 2500 HD have ignition coils?

No. The 6.6L Duramax is a diesel and uses glow plugs, not spark ignition coils. The coils on this page are for the gas engines, such as the 6.0L, 8.1L and 6.6L L8T.

Should I replace every ignition coil on my Silverado 2500 HD at once?

Not necessarily. Find the misfiring cylinder, test or swap that coil, and replace what has failed. Listings here include single coils, coil kits and coil and wire sets, so check the quantity in each one.

What code does a bad ignition coil set on a 2500 HD?

Usually a misfire code, P0300 for random misfires or P0301 through P0308 for one cylinder. Those codes can also come from plugs, wires or injectors, so test before replacing the coil.
