Escape coil fitment by engine
On the Escape, the engine decides the coil, not the trim or drive type. The 2001-2007 model came with a 2.0L or 2.3L four-cylinder or a 3.0L V6. The 2008-2012 model used a 2.5L four-cylinder or the 3.0L V6. From 2013 to 2019 the Escape was four-cylinder only: a 2.5L, a 1.6L EcoBoost, a 2.0L EcoBoost and, from 2017, a 1.5L EcoBoost.
The 1.6L and 1.5L EcoBoost coils are not interchangeable just because both engines are turbo fours. Hybrids may use different ignition parts from gas models. Check your engine size on the fitment table, then compare the connector, boot length and mounting with your old coil.
Signs of a failing Escape coil
A bad coil usually causes a misfire you can feel as a rough, shaking idle, a stumble when you accelerate or a loss of power under load. The check engine light comes on, and a scan tool will often show P0300 for a random misfire, P0301 to P0304 for a specific cylinder, or P0351 to P0354 for a coil circuit fault.
If the check engine light flashes, the misfire is severe, and driving on can damage the catalytic converter. Oil or water in the spark plug well can also kill coils and cause repeat misfires, so look in the well and at the valve cover seal when you pull the coil.
One coil, a set or a kit
Confirm the bad cylinder before you buy a single coil. A simple test is to swap the suspect coil with another cylinder and see if the misfire code moves with it. If it moves, the coil is at fault. If it stays, look at the plug, injector, wiring or compression.
Most modern Escape four-cylinder engines use one coil per cylinder, so a full set is four. On many of them each coil is held by one small bolt; unplug it, remove the bolt and pull the coil straight up. Check the spark plug under a failed coil, and replace it if it is worn or fouled. Kits such as the DIY Solutions coil and plug kit cover both.

Escape questions
How many ignition coils does a Ford Escape have?
It depends on the engine. Most Escape four-cylinder engines use one coil per cylinder, so four coils, but you should verify the count for your exact engine. Some listings here are single coils and others are full sets.
Does a 1.6L EcoBoost coil fit a 2017 Escape 1.5L?
Do not assume it does. The 2013-2016 1.6L EcoBoost and the 2017-2019 1.5L EcoBoost are listed with different coils even though both are turbo four-cylinders. Choose by engine in the fitment table.
Should I replace the spark plug with an Escape ignition coil?
Inspect the plug under the failed coil and replace it if it is worn, fouled or oily. Many owners replace plugs and coils together, and some listings here are coil and plug kits.
