Fitment follows the Power Stroke

On the F250 Super Duty, the intercooler is matched to the engine, model year and charge air plumbing, not the trim, cab or bed. The 7.3L Power Stroke ran through the 2003.5 changeover, when the 6.0L took over through 2007. The 6.4L arrived for 2008 and ran through 2010, and the 6.7L has been used since 2011, including the aluminum-body trucks from 2017.

Gas engines in these trucks generally do not use an intercooler. Because 2003 is a split year, confirm your engine and build date. Then compare the inlet and outlet positions, tube size, mounting tabs and core size. One 6.4L listing here specifies a tube-fin design.

Why owners replace the intercooler

The intercooler sits up front, so road debris, collisions and broken mounts are common causes. Corrosion or a cracked tank or core can leak boost. Signs include low power, weak acceleration or towing, a hiss under boost, smoke and a check engine light.

A leaking boot, coupler, clamp or intercooler tube can cause the same symptoms, so test the whole charge air system before you replace the core. A light oil film around the tanks can be normal from crankcase ventilation and does not prove a leak by itself.

Core only or with tubes

Most listings are the intercooler core only. Charge air tubes, boots, clamps and seals are separate parts unless a listing says otherwise. Do not confuse the intercooler with the radiator, AC condenser or transmission cooler stacked near it.

While the front of the truck is open, inspect every boot, O-ring, clamp and mounting isolator, and replace any that are cracked or oily. After installation, pressure-test the charge air system to find leaks before you tow again. Removal steps and tools differ by generation and engine, so follow the service procedure for yours.

F250 Super Duty questions

Does a gas F250 Super Duty have an intercooler?

Generally no. The gas engines in these trucks are not turbocharged, so they do not use an intercooler. The intercoolers on this page are for the 7.3L, 6.0L, 6.4L and 6.7L Power Stroke diesels.

Is a 6.0L intercooler the same as a 6.4L intercooler on the F250?

No. The 6.0L ran through 2007 and the 6.4L ran from 2008-2010, and they use different charge air systems. Pick your engine in the fitment table on each listing.

Could my F250 boost leak be a boot and not the intercooler?

Yes. Leaking tubes, couplers, clamps and seals cause the same power loss and hissing as a failed core. Pressure-test the system and inspect each connection before you replace the intercooler.
