Engine and body decide the shape

Civic intake hoses are molded to fit one engine bay layout. Fitment samples here include the 1.5L D15B7, 1.6L Si coupe, 1.6L GX, 1.7L, 1.8L, and 2.0L engines, including the hatchback. The 1995-2000, 2001-2005, 2006-2011 and 2012-2015 cars each have their own designs.

Coupe and sedan intakes can differ, and Si, Hybrid and natural gas versions may use different tubes or ports. Compare the bends, the clamp grooves and every vacuum or breather port with your old hose. Measuring only the diameter is not enough. Use your VIN when the catalog splits a year.

Signs of a cracked intake hose

Rubber intake tubes harden and split with heat, age and engine movement. A crack after the airflow sensor lets in air the engine computer does not measure.

That can cause a hiss or sucking noise, a rough idle, hesitation, jerky acceleration, stalling and a lean code such as P0171, and it can fail an emissions test. Those symptoms can also come from other vacuum leaks, so look for cracks in the folds and squeeze the hose to find splits before you order.

Fitting a new intake hose

Most listings are a single tube, and clamps, resonators and small vacuum hoses may not be included. On 2012-2015 1.8L cars, the job includes unplugging the airflow sensor, the vacuum pipe and the throttle body clamp.

Loosen the clamps at the airbox and throttle body, unplug any sensors and pull the breather lines. Set the new hose in place without twisting it, check that both ends are fully seated, then tighten the clamps. While it is out, check the air filter, clamps and breather hoses. Start the engine, listen for leaks and clear any lean code.

Civic questions

Can a cracked intake hose cause a P0171 code on my Civic?

Yes. A crack between the airflow sensor and throttle body lets in unmeasured air, which can set a lean code such as P0171. Other vacuum leaks can do the same, so inspect before replacing.

Does a Civic sedan intake hose fit a Civic coupe?

Not always. Coupe and sedan intakes can differ, and Si models often use different parts. Pick your body style and engine in the fitment table before ordering.

Do Civic intake hoses come with clamps?

Many are sold as the hose only, without clamps. Check the product details, and reuse your old clamps only if they are not rusted, stretched or cracked.
