Camaro fuel pump fitment

Fuel pumps follow the generation, engine and fuel system. The 1987-1992 Camaro used several V6 and V8 setups, including carbureted and fuel-injected 5.0L engines. The 1993-2002 Camaro used the 3.4L and 3.8L V6, the LT1 and the LS1, and pump modules differ by year and engine. There were no 2003-2009 Camaros.

The 2010-2015 and 2016-2020 cars add direct-injection engines, which have an engine-mounted high-pressure pump in addition to the in-tank pump. Coupe and convertible can also differ. Listings here note details such as the 3.6L LLT, the 6.2L LT1 coupe and 5.7L-only convertibles, so match those and compare connector, ports and sender with your original.

Signs of a weak Camaro fuel pump

A tired pump often whines or buzzes from the tank area. As pressure falls you may notice long cranking, hard starts, hesitation or sputtering under acceleration, stalling and reduced power, and eventually a no-start.

Test before you buy. Check fuel pressure, the pump fuse and relay, and the power and ground at the pump connector. A clogged strainer or contaminated fuel can also starve the engine. On direct-injection Camaros, a failing high-pressure pump can cause hard starts, low power or limp mode, so find out which pump is at fault.

Module, pump only or hanger

A complete module usually includes the pump, housing, sender, strainer and seal. A pump-only listing means moving parts over from your old housing. Hanger assemblies here include the sender, and one listing recommends a new wiring harness and strainer with the pump. Use a new tank seal and strainer whenever they are supplied or called for.

Access varies a lot. Some Camaros need the tank lowered, and 1996-1997 cars can need the exhaust and rear axle moved to get the tank out. Disconnect the battery, relieve fuel pressure and work with good ventilation away from sparks. Check the connector for heat damage, and inspect for leaks after priming.

Camaro questions

Do coupe and convertible Camaros use the same fuel pump?

Not always. The tank, module and wiring can differ by body style, and some listings here are for one body only. Select your body style and engine in the fitment table.

Is the high-pressure pump the same as the tank pump on a newer Camaro?

No. Direct-injection Camaros have an in-tank low-pressure pump and a separate high-pressure pump on the engine. They are different parts, so confirm which one has failed before ordering.

Is there a fuel pump for a 2005 Camaro?

No. Chevrolet did not sell a Camaro for the 2003-2009 model years. Pumps here cover 1987-2002 and 2010-2020 cars. Choose your year and engine in the fitment table.
