Fuel Pump
A fuel pump moves fuel from the tank to the engine at the pressure the fuel system needs. We list 163 fuel pumps from $14 to $832 for vehicles from 1962-2022, with brands including Airtex, AC Delco, Delphi, Carter and API, and fits for the Chevrolet Tahoe, Malibu, Impala and Dodge Dakota.

Signs of a failing fuel pump
Common symptoms include long cranking before the engine starts, sputtering or loss of power at highway speed or under load, stalling when hot, and a whine from the tank. Some pumps fail all at once and the engine cranks but will not start.
Before you buy a pump, check the fuel pump fuse and relay, and listen for the pump to run for a couple of seconds when you turn the key on. A fuel pressure test confirms whether the pump is meeting specification.
Pump styles and what is included
Older carbureted engines often use a mechanical pump bolted to the engine block. Fuel injected vehicles use an electric pump, usually inside the tank. Listings range from a bare pump with a strainer to a complete module assembly with float arm, sender and seal.
A full module costs more but replaces the sender, wiring and housing at the same time. Some trucks and SUVs use primary and secondary pumps or left and right tanks, so check the position in the listing.
Fitment and safe installation
Match engine size, tank capacity and model year, and compare the old pump's part number. Flow and pressure ratings vary, so do not swap a pump designed for a different system.
Relieve fuel pressure, disconnect the battery and work with a low tank in a ventilated area. Replace the tank seal and strainer whenever you open the tank, and keep debris out of the opening. Turn the key on and check for leaks before starting.
Fuel Pump questions
What is the difference between a fuel pump and a fuel pump module?
A fuel pump is the motor alone. A module usually includes the pump, strainer, reservoir, sending unit and mounting flange in one unit, which is simpler to install.
Can a bad fuel pump relay mimic a bad fuel pump?
Yes. A failed relay or blown fuse cuts power to the pump, so the engine cranks without starting. Test the relay and fuse before replacing the pump.
Should I replace the fuel filter with the fuel pump?
If your vehicle has a separate serviceable filter, replacing it with the pump is common practice, since a clogged filter makes the new pump work harder.
