Escape rotor fitment by year

The 2012 Escape is the last year of the older design and takes different rotors from the 2013 and newer models. The 2013-2019 Escape has four-wheel disc brakes, but rotor size changes with trim, engine, drive type and brake package. Ford lists some rear rotors for non-AWD models only. The 2020-2022 Escape is a separate generation again, with its own front and rear rotors.

Select front or rear first. Then match drive type and trim, such as Titanium FWD or SE AWD, and check the rotor's outside diameter, thickness, height and center bore. A plain rotor usually fits either side, but drilled, slotted or directional rotors can be sold by side.

When Escape rotors are worn out

Replace or resurface a rotor once it is below its thickness limit, deeply grooved, badly rusted or has too much runout. Uneven thickness, even about 0.001 inch, can cause a pulsing pedal and steering wheel shake. Grinding, squealing, a lip at the rotor edge and longer stops are other clues.

Vibration does not always mean bad rotors. Hub runout over about 0.002 inch, a seized caliper or an ABS fault can produce similar symptoms. If pulsation was the complaint, measure hub runout with the old rotor off, or new rotors may shake too.

Rotor or kit, and installing it

Most single rotor listings are one rotor, so order two for the axle. New pads should go on with new rotors. Kits such as the DuraGo front and rear pad and rotor kits or the Detroit Axle and TRQ front and rear kits bundle both. Motorcraft and Raybestos rotors suit a rotor-only job.

Support the vehicle on jack stands. With the old rotor off, clean rust and debris from the hub face so the new rotor sits true, then check runout. Inspect the calipers, slide pins and hardware, and replace anything seized or worn. Bed in the pads before normal driving.

Escape questions

Does a 2012 Ford Escape use the same rotors as a 2013?

No. The 2012 is the final year of the older design, and the 2013 redesign uses a different brake system. Choose the listing for your exact year.

Do AWD and FWD Escapes use the same rear rotors?

Not always. On 2013-2019 models, Ford lists at least one rear rotor for non-AWD vehicles only. Confirm your drive type and trim in the fitment table before ordering.

Why does my Escape still shake after new rotors?

Hub runout, a seized caliper or an ABS fault can cause vibration that new rotors will not fix. Clean the hub face and check runout during installation.
