Parts for your Ford F250 Super Duty

2012 Ford F250 Super Duty Blower Motor Resistors

Buy Ford F250 Super Duty blower motor resistors online for 1999-2012 trucks. The list has 16 resistors and resistor kits from $13.98 to $170.43, by Motorcraft, Dorman, Standard Motor Products, Four Seasons, Forecast and API. If your fan only runs on high, the resistor is the usual suspect, and the connector deserves a look too.

Year range and HVAC type

On the 1999-2007 F250 Super Duty, the blower resistor is generally shared across regular cab, SuperCab and Crew Cab, both bed lengths, all engines and 2WD or 4WD. The 2008 refresh and the 2011 redesign are the points where fitment can change, so do not assume a 1999-2007 part fits a later truck.

The climate control type matters more than trim. Manual systems use a resistor, while electronic systems may use a blower control module instead. Compare the number of pins, the shape and the keying of the connector with your old part, and make sure the listing names the F250 Super Duty and not just an F150 or F250.

Fan only works on high

The classic sign is a blower that runs only on high. The high setting bypasses the resistor, so a burned resistor kills the lower speeds first. You may also lose one or two speeds, see speeds that do not change, or get intermittent operation.

Melted or discolored connectors are a known problem on these trucks. A worn blower motor that drags pulls extra current and overheats the resistor and plug. If the blower does not run at all, check the fuse, relay, switch, wiring and motor too.

Resistor only or with pigtail

If the old plug is clean and tight, a resistor alone will do. If it is melted, brittle, corroded or loose, choose a kit with a new pigtail, such as the Dorman HVAC blower motor resistor kit.

On 1999-2007 trucks the resistor sits near the blower motor on the passenger side and is held by two 8mm bolts. Unplug it, remove the bolts, fit the new one and reconnect. Test every fan speed afterward. Listen to the blower motor for noise or drag, because a failing motor can burn out the new resistor.

F250 Super Duty questions

Why does my F250 blower only work on high?

The high speed bypasses the resistor, so a failed resistor usually takes out the lower speeds first. Also check the connector, since melted plugs are common on these trucks.

Where is the blower motor resistor on a 1999-2007 F250 Super Duty?

It sits near the blower motor on the passenger side, close to the firewall area, and is held by two 8mm bolts. Unplug the harness, remove the bolts and swap the part.

Do I need a new pigtail with my F250 blower resistor?

Only if the old connector is melted, discolored, corroded or loose. A damaged plug can overheat the new resistor, so a resistor and pigtail kit is the safer choice in that case.
