Matching the drier to your Sierra
Fitment changes with the A/C system design more than with trim. On 1999-2006 GMT800 trucks, rear A/C changes the part, and one common application is listed only for trucks without rear A/C. The 2007-2013 GMT900 and 2014-2018 K2XX trucks use their own parts, and one GM receiver dehydrator covers several K2XX cab and box combinations.
The 2019 model year is split. The carryover Sierra 1500 Limited and the new-generation Sierra 1500 take different parts. Compare the mounting bracket, fitting style and size, port layout and any pressure switch provision with your old unit. Some listings say accumulator and others say receiver drier, so check which design your truck uses.
Why you replace the drier
The drier holds a desiccant that pulls moisture out of the refrigerant. Once the system is opened for a leak repair, a compressor or a condenser, that desiccant is spent, so replacing it is standard practice. It matters most after a compressor failure, when debris and contaminated oil can circulate.
Symptoms such as warm or patchy cooling, low charge and odd pressure readings can point to a restriction or leak at the drier. GM service information notes a slow refrigerant leak can come from scoring at the receiver dryer cap. These symptoms are shared with other parts, so check the compressor, condenser, orifice tube or expansion valve and the charge too.
Installing a new Sierra drier
Have the refrigerant recovered with proper equipment before any line is opened. Replace every disturbed O-ring with a refrigerant-compatible seal, and keep the new drier capped until the moment it goes in, because an open desiccant absorbs moisture from the air.
If the compressor failed, replace the drier along with the orifice tube or expansion valve and flush the system as needed to clear debris. After installation, pull a vacuum with a vacuum pump and recharge by the specified refrigerant weight. Check whether your listing includes O-rings or is a single unit only. Some replacement condensers include an integrated drier, while others do not.

Sierra 1500 questions
Does a 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 use the same AC drier as a 2018?
It depends on which 2019 truck you have. The 2019 Sierra 1500 Limited is a carryover model and is listed separately from the new-generation 2019 Sierra 1500. Confirm which version you own and check the fitment table.
Do I need to replace the receiver drier with a new AC compressor?
Yes, that is standard practice. A failed compressor can send debris and contaminated oil through the system, and the old desiccant is saturated once the system is opened. Replace the orifice tube or expansion valve and flush as needed too.
Does rear A/C change the drier on a 1999-2006 Sierra 1500?
It can. One documented 1999-2006 application covering 4.8L, 5.3L and 6.0L trucks is listed only for trucks without rear A/C. Check your equipment and the fitment table before ordering.
