GMT800, Classic or GMT900

Console lids follow the body, not the model name. The 2001-2006 Sierra 1500 uses the GMT800 interior, and the 2007 Sierra Classic kept that same body. The redesigned GMT900 Sierra ran from 2007 to 2013 with a different console. So if you own a 2007, confirm whether it is a Classic or the new body before you order, because their lids do not generally cross over.

Next, check your console type. A full center console, a split bench with a fold-down armrest and a front-seat console can each take a different lid. Trim and interior color also matter. Drive type, engine and bed length do not usually decide the fit.

When the lid needs replacing

Most Sierra owners replace the console lid because the vinyl or plastic has torn, cracked or split from years of use as an armrest. A broken hinge or latch is the other common reason, and so is a lid that will not stay closed.

Before you buy a full lid, look closely at what has failed. A lid that will not latch may have a worn latch, a cracked hinge or damage in the console body itself rather than in the lid shell. If only the cover is worn, a lid-only listing may do the job. If the hinge or latch is broken, look for a complete assembly.

Fitting a new Sierra console lid

Check whether each listing is a cover only, a complete lid assembly or a kit with hinge, latch and hardware. Compare photos of the hinge shape, latch opening, mounting holes and color with your truck. The Dorman 924-835, 924-811 and 924-812 lids are listed here, so read each fitment table closely.

On 2007-2013 GMT900 trucks the job needs only a Phillips screwdriver and a plastic pry tool. You remove eight screws from the underside, separate the underside panel, then remove four screws that hold the lid top to the console. Install in reverse. While it is apart, inspect the latch, hinge and underside shell for cracks.

Sierra 1500 questions

Will a 2007-2013 Sierra console lid fit a 2007 Sierra Classic?

Usually not. The 2007 Classic kept the older GMT800 interior, while the new 2007 body uses the GMT900 console. Only use a GMT900 lid on a Classic if the fitment table says so.

Does a GMC Sierra 1500 console lid come with the latch and hinge?

Some do and some do not. Listings range from a cover only to a complete lid assembly with hardware. Read the listing description and compare the photos with your original before you order.

Do 2WD and 4WD Sierra 1500 trucks use different console lids?

Drive type is not what decides console lid fit. The interior layout matters more: cab style, full console versus split bench armrest, trim and interior color. Use the fitment table to match your console.
