Honda Accord Igniters
Buy Honda Accord igniters online for 1985-2002 cars. You can choose from 13 igniters and ignition control modules from $41.58 to $347.58, with Hitachi, Huco, Beru, Forecast, Beck Arnley and Delphi among the brands. The igniter is mounted in or on the distributor, so the right one depends on your engine code and distributor more than on trim or body style.

Engine code and distributor
This page covers the 1985-1989, 1990-1993, 1994-1997 and 1998-2002 Accord. Within each, the igniter changes with the engine and the distributor supplier. Fitment samples here include the F22B1, F22B2, F23A4 and F23A5 four-cylinder engines, the 3.0L V6 and California emissions cars.
Four-cylinder and V6 Accords need separate parts, so never pick one by year alone. Body style and transmission are not reliable guides either. Read the number stamped on your distributor or old module, and compare the connector, terminal count, mounting holes and size with the listing.
Symptoms of a failing igniter
The igniter switches the ignition coil on and off. When it fails, the classic signs are a crank but no start, stalling, loss of spark when the engine is hot, hard starting and an engine that restarts after it cools down. Age and heat cycling are the usual causes.
A bad coil, distributor pickup, cap and rotor, main relay, ground or wiring can cause the same symptoms. Check for power, coil function and the pickup signal before you decide the module is the problem.
Replacing the module
Some listings are a single igniter, others an igniter unit kit, so check what is included. Disconnect the battery before you work on the distributor. If you remove the whole distributor, mark its position first so the timing stays right.
If the module mounts to a metal plate in the distributor, use the thermal compound supplied or the one the maker specifies, since heat is what kills these parts. While the distributor is open, look at the cap, rotor, seals, wiring and coil, and replace any part that is worn or contaminated.

Accord questions
Do the 4-cylinder and V6 Honda Accord use the same igniter?
No. Four-cylinder and V6 Accords are separate applications, so do not choose an igniter by model year alone. Check your engine in the fitment table on each listing.
Why does my Accord stall when hot and restart after it cools?
That is a classic sign of a failing igniter, but a weak coil, the main relay or a bad pickup can do the same. Test those parts before replacing the module.
Do I need thermal paste for an Accord igniter?
If the module mounts to a metal plate in the distributor, yes. Use the compound supplied with the part or the one its maker specifies to help it shed heat.
