Parts for your Toyota Camry
1998 Toyota Camry Breather Hoses
Buy Toyota Camry breather hoses online for 1989-2007 cars. There are 9 breather and ventilation hoses here from $12.58 to $22.58, from MTC and Genuine Toyota. Toyota uses several hoses in the crankcase ventilation system, so match your engine, whether the 2.0L, 2.2L or 2.4L four or the 3.0L V6, and the hose location.

Engine and hose location
Camry breather hose fitment is set by the year, the engine and where the hose sits. Four-cylinder and V6 engines use different hoses throughout this range, and later cars split again between the 2.4L and the V6, with Hybrid versions listed separately. Trim level does not decide fitment.
Toyota names these parts ventilation hose, PCV hose, crankcase breather hose or No. 2 ventilation hose, and they do not interchange. One 2.2L listing here applies only to cars built up to 07-31-99, so check your build date. Compare the molded bends, diameter, ends and any branch with your old hose.
Signs of a bad breather hose
Heat and age make these hoses hard, brittle and cracked, or they collapse and slip off. A broken hose causes a vacuum leak, which brings hissing, a rough or unsteady idle, stalling, hesitation, misfires and a check engine light. The PCV hose is a known weak spot on later 2.4L engines.
A blocked hose or PCV valve can raise crankcase pressure and lead to oil leaks or higher oil use. Some oil inside a breather hose can be normal PCV vapor, so look at the PCV valve and fittings before you blame the hose.
Replacing the hose
Most listings are the hose only. Check the PCV valve and its grommet while you are there, since they are part of the same ventilation path.
Squeeze the old hose and look underneath for cracks. A smoke test finds small leaks best. Clean the barbs, fit the molded hose the right way round without kinking it, and use the correct clamps. On some 2007 engines the PCV hose sits at the back of the engine, so access is tighter. Check nearby vacuum hoses too before you close up.

Camry questions
Which breather hose does my Camry need?
It depends on your engine and the hose location. Toyota uses several ventilation hoses, and four-cylinder, V6 and Hybrid engines differ. Check the engine and position in the fitment table.
Can a cracked breather hose cause a rough idle on my Camry?
Yes. A cracked PCV or breather hose creates a vacuum leak that can cause hissing, rough idle, stalling and a check engine light. A smoke test confirms the leak.
Is oil in my Camry breather hose a problem?
Some oil residue can come from normal PCV vapor. Heavy oil, leaks or high oil use can point to a blocked PCV valve or hose, so check the valve and fittings too.
