Engine, rear AC and year
The 1998-2002 and 2003-2006 Expeditions came with the 4.6L or 5.4L V8. The 2007-2014 trucks generally use the 5.4L V8, and 2015-2017 trucks switched to the 3.5L EcoBoost V6. That change is a major fitment break, so do not use an older V8 compressor on a 3.5L.
Trim names such as XLT, Eddie Bauer, Limited, King Ranch and EL or Max do not set fitment on their own. Rear climate control, engine and build date can. Some listings note a scroll style compressor or a 4 groove pulley. Match the mounting pattern, pulley and clutch, connector and port location to your original unit.
Signs of compressor failure
Look for warm air from the vents, a clutch that will not engage, bearing or pulley noise, belt squeal, oil and refrigerant leaks, or a seized compressor that damages or throws the serpentine belt.
A clutch that does not engage is not proof the compressor is bad. Low refrigerant, a pressure switch, wiring or a failed clutch coil can do the same thing. On trucks with rear AC there are more lines and expansion devices to check, so diagnose the whole system first.
Kit or compressor alone
GPD lists several compressor kits here, while Denso, Motorcraft and UAC offer compressors alone. If the old compressor failed inside, a kit with a drier or accumulator, expansion valve or orifice tube, seals and oil is the better choice, though contents vary.
Have the refrigerant recovered with proper equipment before opening the system. Flush it, or filter it if flushing is not possible, and replace the drier and expansion device after contamination. Fit new O-rings and add the specified oil. Access differs between 2WD and 4WD. Evacuate, leak-check and recharge with the specified amount of refrigerant.

Expedition questions
Does a 5.4L Expedition AC compressor fit the 3.5L EcoBoost?
No. The switch to the 3.5L EcoBoost for 2015 is a major fitment break, and the compressors are not interchangeable. Select your engine in each listing's fitment table.
Does rear AC change the compressor on my Expedition?
It can affect fitment and the parts you need, since rear AC adds lines and expansion devices. Check the listing for your configuration and service the rear system too.
What should I replace with an Expedition AC compressor?
After an internal failure, replace the receiver drier or accumulator, the expansion valve or orifice tube and the O-rings, and flush the system. Some GPD kits here bundle those parts.
