Corvette balancer fitment by engine
The balancer follows the engine and crankshaft, not the body style. C3 cars from 1969-1982 used small and big block V8s, with big blocks through 1974, and balancers vary with engine and crank balance. On the C4, the L98, LT1 and LT4 should not be assumed to share parts.
The C5 LS1 and LS6, the C6 LS2, LS3, LS7 and supercharged LS9, and the C7 LT1 and supercharged LT4 each need checking by engine. Listings here note VIN codes such as the 5.7L 8, G and P and the LS2 U. Compare diameter, pulley grooves, snout size, keyway and balance type with your original.
Signs of a failing balancer
The balancer has a rubber layer bonded between the hub and outer ring. With age the rubber cracks, separates or loses its bond, and the outer ring starts to slip or wobble. A pulley that wobbles side to side or in and out with the engine running is the clearest sign.
Misalignment also makes the serpentine belt chirp or squeal, track badly or wear out. You may feel extra vibration or hear noise from the front of the engine. The LS1 balancer is a pressed-on damper, and isolator failure with age is a recognized issue. A failed balancer can damage the crank keyway, snout, front cover or belt.
Installing a Corvette balancer
Use a proper balancer puller to remove the old one and a threaded installer to press the new one on. Do not use the crank bolt to draw it onto the crankshaft. The C6 service procedure names dedicated removal and installation tools.
Access is tight on C5, C6 and C7 cars, and you may have to remove accessories or move chassis parts for room. Check whether the crank bolt is included, since later LS and LT engines call for a new bolt and a torque-angle procedure. Follow the exact spec for your engine. Replace the front crank seal if it leaks, and inspect the snout, keyway, belt and front cover.

Corvette questions
How do I know my Corvette harmonic balancer is bad?
Watch the crank pulley with the engine running. A wobble, a belt that chirps or squeals, or cracked and separated rubber between the hub and outer ring are the common signs.
Do I need a new crank bolt with a Corvette balancer?
On later LS and LT engines, repair information calls for a new crank bolt and a torque-angle procedure. Check whether your balancer listing includes the bolt.
Do LT1 and LT4 Corvette engines use the same balancer?
Not by assumption. Fitment varies between LT1 and LT4 engines, both on the C4 and the C7. Check your engine code or VIN in the fitment table.
