Finding the right Equinox sensor

Start with the generation. The 2005-2009 first generation, the 2010-2017 second generation and the 2018-2021 third generation each use their own sensors, and front and rear sensors are never interchangeable. Then pick the corner. Many listings are side-specific, such as the Dorman 970-284 for the front left, so match driver or passenger side too.

Drive type can change the part, and listings here note FWD or AWD, so confirm which one you have. Trim names like LS, LTZ or Premier help but do not settle fitment on their own. Compare the connector, wire length, routing and mounting style with your old sensor, and use the VIN lookup when the catalog offers one.

Symptoms of a bad wheel sensor

A failing sensor usually turns on the ABS light along with the traction control or StabiliTrak warning, and those systems may switch off until it is fixed. On some older Equinox models a wheel speed fault can also affect the speedometer or set the check engine light. A scan tool will often show one wheel reading zero or jumping around.

On 2010-2017 models, codes C0045 and C0050 point to the left rear and right rear circuits. A code is not proof the sensor is dead, though. Damaged wiring, corroded connectors and debris or cracks on the hub encoder ring can all look like a sensor failure, so inspect those first.

Replacing an Equinox ABS sensor

Check whether the listing is a sensor only or a hub assembly. On some Equinox applications the sensor is part of the hub, and if the encoder ring on the hub is damaged you need the hub, not a sensor.

The job is usually simple. Remove the wheel, unplug the harness and take out the retaining bolt, often 10 mm or T30 on 2010-2017 models, then pull the sensor from the hub. Clean the encoder ring and mounting bore before fitting the new one. On rear sensors, inspect the connectors for corrosion or terminals that have pushed out of place. Clear the codes afterward and road test the vehicle.

Equinox questions

Are the left and right rear ABS sensors the same on a 2010-2017 Equinox?

For one 2010-2017 rear application, the same sensor is shared left and right. Other listings are still side-specific, such as a rear left part, so check the position named in each listing and the fitment table.

Do FWD and AWD Equinox models use the same ABS sensors?

Not always. Drive type is part of the fitment for several Equinox ABS parts, and some listings here specify FWD or AWD. Confirm your drivetrain and check the fitment table before you order.

What does code C0045 mean on a Chevy Equinox?

On 2010-2017 Equinox models, C0045 points to the left rear wheel speed sensor circuit. Inspect the wiring, connectors and hub encoder ring before you replace the sensor, because any of them can set the code.
