Match the gasket to your engine
Corvette head gasket fitment is driven by the engine, the cylinder head design, bore size and gasket thickness. Trim packages such as Z06, Grand Sport or ZR1, and the body style, do not normally change it.
The C3 cars of 1980-1982 used Chevrolet small-block V8s that varied by year. C4 engines include the 5.7L L98 and the later LT1 and LT4. The 1997-2004 C5 mostly ran the 5.7L LS1, with the LS6 in the Z06. C6 cars from 2005-2013 used the 6.0L LS2, 6.2L LS3, 7.0L LS7 and supercharged 6.2L LS9. LS gaskets do not swap freely with older small-block gaskets, and some years offered more than one engine, so check the VIN engine code.
Symptoms of a failed head gasket
A Corvette head gasket seals the heads to the block and keeps combustion gas, coolant and oil apart. When it fails you may see overheating, rough running or hard starting after the car sits, sweet-smelling white exhaust, gurgling in the coolant reservoir, external coolant or oil leaks, or creamy, milky oil.
Those signs can also come from a cracked head, a leaking intake gasket or a cooling system fault. Run a compression or leak-down test, a cooling system pressure test and a combustion gas test before you order parts.
Set or single gasket, plus bolts
A single head gasket normally covers one cylinder bank, so a V8 needs two. A head gasket set may include both gaskets plus other seals, but contents vary, so read the listing before you assume bolts, intake gaskets or valve cover gaskets are included. Felpro offers several HS-series sets for these cars.
Aluminum Corvette heads and blocks need the correct bolt sequence, torque stages and torque-angle steps for your engine. Check both surfaces for warpage and cracks, and replace torque-to-yield head bolts when the service procedure calls for new ones. Change the oil, coolant and filters after the repair, and find out why the engine overheated before you put it back together.

Corvette questions
Do LS1 and LS3 Corvettes use the same head gasket?
Not automatically. The LS1, LS6, LS2, LS3, LS7 and LS9 each have their own application charts, and a gasket that looks similar may not match the bore or thickness your engine needs. Check the engine code from your VIN against the fitment table on each product.
How many head gaskets does a Corvette V8 need?
Two, one for each cylinder bank. A single gasket listing usually covers one bank, while a head gasket set may include both gaskets and extra seals. Read the listing so you know what quantity you are getting.
Should I replace the head bolts on my Corvette with the gasket?
Replace them when the service procedure for your engine calls for one-time-use torque-to-yield bolts. Not every head gasket set includes bolts, so confirm the contents and order a bolt kit separately if your set leaves them out.
