1978 Chevrolet Corvette Spark Plug Wires

Buy Chevrolet Corvette spark plug wires online for 1974-2008 cars. There are 15 wire sets here from $26.72 to $195.95, with AC Delco, MSD, NGK, Delphi, Taylor and TRQ among the brands. Corvette wires change with the engine and ignition system, so the fitment table on each set lists the engine and VIN code it was built for.

Fitment by engine and ignition

Corvette plug wire fitment follows the model year, engine and ignition design. The 1974-1982 C3 cars ran carbureted and fuel-injected small-block V8s with a distributor. C4 cars used engines such as the L98, LT1 and LT4. The LS1 arrived with the 1997 C5, the LS6 powered the C5 Z06, and C6 cars through 2008 used the LS2, the 7.0L LS7 and, for 2008, the LS3.

Older cars use a distributor-style set. LS engines use individual coils with short coil-to-plug wires, which have different lengths and ends. Match the number of wires, the terminal and boot style at both ends, and the routing. Truck or Camaro sets are not safe substitutes just because the engine family is similar.

Signs your plug wires are worn

Heat, age, oil or coolant contamination, corroded terminals and broken insulation all raise resistance in a plug wire. The result is a misfire, rough idle, hesitation, hard starting, weak power, poor fuel economy or a check engine light.

On distributor-equipped C3 and C4 cars, a damaged or badly routed wire can cause cross-fire and intermittent misfires. On LS-powered C5 and C6 cars a bad wire usually affects one cylinder, but the coil, coil boot or plug can be the real fault. Check wire resistance against the spec before you replace a full set.

Installing a new wire set

Route every wire exactly like the original, using the factory separators and clips. Keep the wires away from exhaust manifolds, headers, sharp edges and moving parts, because poor routing leads to burned boots and cross-fire. Use the cylinder numbers and firing order for your engine rather than left or right labels.

If the service history is unknown, inspect or replace the spark plugs at the same time. On distributor engines, check the cap and rotor. On C5 and C6 cars, look at the coil boots and connectors for carbon tracking. MSD and NGK sets are among the options here if you want an alternative to AC Delco.

Corvette questions

Do LS1 Corvettes use a normal spark plug wire set?

Not a distributor-style set. LS engines use individual coils with short wires from each coil to its spark plug. You still need one wire per cylinder, but the lengths and ends differ from older Corvette sets.

How many spark plug wires does a Corvette V8 need?

Eight, one per cylinder. Most listings here are complete sets, but check the product details to confirm you are getting all eight and the correct lengths for your engine.

Will Camaro plug wires fit my Corvette?

Do not assume they will. Even with a similar engine, routing, heat shielding, wire length and terminals can differ. Use the Corvette fitment table for your year and engine code.
