Knock sensor fitment by engine
Pick the sensor by engine and generation. The 1994-1996 Impala SS used a 5.7L V8 and has its own sensor. The 2000-2005 sedan used the 3.4L or 3.8L V6, the 2006-2011 car added the 3.5L, 3.9L and flex-fuel engines, and the 2014-2020 car uses a 2.5L four-cylinder or a 3.6L V6.
The fitment table lists engine codes such as the 3.8L L36 and L67, the 3.5L LZ4 and the 3.9L LGD, so check the VIN code on your car. On the 2014-2020 3.6L there are two sensors, one for each bank, while the 2.5L has one. Match the connector, wire length and mounting style with your old sensor.
Signs of a bad knock sensor
The check engine light is the most common symptom, and sometimes the only one. When the computer loses the knock signal, it may retard ignition timing to protect the engine, which can cost you power, acceleration and fuel economy.
Codes P0327 and P0332 are low-voltage knock sensor circuit codes, with P0332 pointing to Bank 2. A code does not prove the sensor is dead. Damaged or corroded wiring and connectors cause many of these faults, and a sensor tightened to the wrong torque can set a code by itself. Test the circuit before you buy.
Replacing an Impala knock sensor
Access depends on the engine. On some V6 engines the sensor is on the side of the block and easy to reach. On V8 engines it can sit under the intake manifold, which makes the job much bigger. On the 2014-2020 2.5L and 3.6L, the sensors mount on the outside of the block.
Check whether the listing is a sensor only or includes a pigtail or harness, and replace a damaged connector at the same time. Clean the mounting surface and tighten the sensor to the factory torque, since the wrong torque can cause a new fault. On a 3.6L, replace both sensors only if diagnosis supports it.

Impala questions
How many knock sensors does a 2014-2020 Impala have?
The 2.5L four-cylinder uses one knock sensor and the 3.6L V6 uses two, one per bank. Check whether a listing is for Bank 1, Bank 2 or a pair before you order.
Can wiring cause a P0327 code on my Impala?
Yes. P0327 is a low-voltage circuit code, and damaged or corroded wiring and connectors are common causes. Test the circuit and connector before replacing the knock sensor itself.
Does the 1994-1996 Impala SS use the same knock sensor as later models?
No. The Impala SS used a 5.7L V8 with its own knock sensor application, unlike the later V6 front-wheel-drive Impalas. Choose your engine in the fitment table.
